Thank you for this list. Actually, it might come in handy, but for now, I'm following the advice you shared that I learned, after I downloaded your free but very useful authoritative black book
Thanks for compiling this amazing list. You know, we take all of these generous people for granted but when you see the list, the smarts are staggering!
Thanks for including The Marketing Minute but even bigger thanks for including Age of Conversation. We're knee deep in the editing process of Age of Conversation '08!
Again -- kudos to you for creating such a remarkable resource.
Thanks for including me in the list. Some of my favorite blogs are also in the list.

Dear Jack
Thanks for this plug. We will probably take your list and try to make up a ranking of the blogs you listed above so to see who has the biggest footprint, 'influence' etc.
Thanks for putting this list together. I am glad we are on it :-) and surprised at the same time how we made it since we are soooo young (exist since Jan 08).

Great resource Jack,
Lists always get traffic because they save time. I'll be checking these sites out to learn more about social marketing.
Thanks for the mention. One thought: Lots of people are using the term "social marketing", but that's a term that's been in use for decades. It means applying marketing principles to address social issues.
What I think all of us on the list do is social media marketing. It's longer to say, and a bit clunky, but we can't use a term that's so well established.
I noticed in the beginning that social marketing was really big in the engines for sites that deal with social issues. I thought then about staying away from that established use of the term and started mixing in "media" a lot.
But today there are two definitions or uses of the term that are established and it seems Google is doing ok semantically understanding what you're after.
It's harder to break the top 10 for any keyword phrase that has multiple popular meanings, so you're right about carving out newer phrases and owning them too, such as social media marketing. Which more accurately describes what we all do.

Maddie,
Well now that screws up the whole "142" thing! I either have to keep you listed twice or find another blog for one of your spots! Maybe you're so good you need to be listed twice!

Thanks for the inclusion on the list! This is a fantastic list and I'm proud to be included in such great company.
Hehe - that would be nice, but I think someone else should get the coveted spot... I would like to suggest Lindy Dreyer for the spot, she has a fantastic blog at http://associationmarketing.blogspot.com/. She is a buddy, full disclosure and all!
Thanks for the link love and for including me on this awesome list of great blogs.

Thank you very much, Jack. This is great company for Social Media Today. I hope you will also add your terrific blog to our site....
Jack - Thanks very much for including my blog in your list. This is a terrific list - Many I had heard of and many new ones I hadn't heard of yet. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jack and everyone, I encourage you to add www.marketingtwo.net to the list -- and to add your voices in a big way, because it's a group blog + community. (Disclosure: we at Beeline Labs set up and manage the blog and community.) Y'all come by, it's growing fast and the ideas and experiences are flowing.
Jack, Thanks for the resource. My company has a blog platform for small businesses, called Moguling.com [riffly_video]C606404A62E411DDA34BD6ACAA01D9A4[/riffly_video]

I was surprised to see that Michelle MacPherson wasn't on the list. I always thought that she was one of the social media "gurus". How did she get the blacklist?
Ingenious tactic with the list! I have seen several other people following suit and am thinking of doing the same for our website niche.
I just had a question about whether you did a trackback on all 142 websites when you posted it into Wordpress or if not, how were the people on the list notified that this list existed and that they were on it?
My list is up to about 82 and I now have an enormous respect for whomever did the entire 142 on your list as this is a lot of work if you go through and verify each site and really do it right!
Good webmasters/bloggers will know when someone links to them. 1) they'll have the correct blogging platform that notifies them when someone links to them, 2) they will check their stats compulsively to see who is sending them traffic and check it out.
When someone puts together a random list just for the list's sake, they won't get participation and thanks. When you put together a list of well-thought-out selections of people who should know when they've been included in something like this and appreciate it, they'll come back in droves to say thanks.
So an ordinary list of sites doesn't cut it. You have to really think about who you include strategically. "The Best" is completely subjective. Are these 142 THE BEST? There's no way to tell definitively. You can't just look at the numbers and say "whomever is the best in the engines or has the most links or comments" is the determining factor.
The best are the people who will get into it with you after you've made the list. The best have to have good content, decent rankings, but they'll also have the greatest potential to draw more attention TO YOUR LIST by participating, commenting, linking back, and understanding the spirit of the list in the blogosphere.
The perfect list of "best blogs" of any kind is the list that doesn't even need a trackback to know that they've been linked. If they are paying attention to their traffic and links that closely, they are most likely excellent bloggers as well.

I apologize for not thanking you sooner, thanks for the mention not the link, I believe many people owe you a thank you or two in relation to marketing in this very competitive landscape. BTW we have been trying to touch base with you recently.
You're very welcome! Thanks for giving me such a great site to link to. You make me look better for doing so!
I've been slammed badly this week, but hit my contact form again in case I just lost track of some emails. It could have happened recently with the busy-ness that's been going on around here lately. I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks for including SOMEWHAT FRANK in your list of top sites. Cheers!
Just wanted to give you all the heads up that Friend Connect was live on Blogger last nite till about 10AM Arizona time. This was full release Friend Connect not the HTML Blogger subset that you see right now.
Why did I add this post here? Because Blogger just got way more powerful than it ever was with Friend Connect rolling out there any day.
It was up on all blogs that added the widget and then it started to throw errors and get REALLY slow and then suddenly we started seeing the Blogger "Following" interface replace it.
I am hoping that late tonite when server load goes down we will see the AJAX Friend Connect widget come back in place.
Blogger is now going to be the destination of allot of us wanting to see more from the Google Social Network: Googling Social!
This is a great resource. But just a thought. Even if I read one per day it is going to take half a year ( well! Almost) to return to where you begun.
Anyway, a very good list

you might want to add my blog - I'm in usually around 140 in the Power150 from AdAge. social network marketing (I just moved from blogger). I give workshops on social marketing around Australia, Asia and Middle East, which is why you prolly haven't heard of me :)
I've been teaching corporate courses on How to Do Social Media Marketing through the University of Sydney for around 3 years now. I'm also listed as Australia's #4 Marketing and Media blogger. I've been running online communities and virtual worlds since the late 1980s. Should be enough to make it onto your list *winks* :P
